The London School of Media Makeup sit down with Gazelli's Head of Education Alicia Falero to find out what inspires her about skincare, and why she loves to share Gazelli's knowledge with others. Here at The LSMM we’re firm advocates for a thorough skincare regime! We’ve teamed up with Gazelli Skincare and their Head of Education, Alicia Falero, to provide our students with the very best core skincare knowledge! We sat down with Alicia to chat to her about her career, her inspiration and her must have skincare items.
How has your career evolved over the last 10 years?
It’s been a lot of hard work building 15 years of experience, knowledge and expertise in treatment technique and teaching. By having a continuous desire to learn and share knowledge & techniques, I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the industry’s most influential spas, and skincare brands within their spa management and education teams, in some of the world’s most exotic destinations.
Who or what is your creative influence? Has there been a country that you’ve visited that has inspired your work?
I’m influenced particularly by music, art, travel, and learning. I’ve realised that my time in Hong Kong and Thailand has been significant, where the approach to wellbeing is holistic; truly a ritual, a craft. It’s the kind of skilled, creative, intuitive approach that I’d most like to embody. What is your favourite skincare product from Gazelli? I always look for quality of ingredients within skincare products. Products with a combination of vitamins, peptides and antioxidants, like those found in Gazelli’s Ultimate Firming Serum. Serums give skin that extra TLC and their low molecular weight means they are absorbed into the deeper layers of the epidermis at a faster rate. This helps them to act like a veil to protect and nourish the skin.
What skincare product/ treatment do you think is the most underrated and why?
I think body brushing daily is massively underrated. I’ve seen the benefits when a client has been committed to brushing daily. It significantly helps to speed up the lymphatic system, and drain excess fluid and toxins. By increasing and boosting circulation, you can dramatically reduce the appearance of cellulite and improve the immune system, enhancing overall wellbeing.
I also think that having knowledge and understanding of your skin is something that not enough people take advantage of. The beauty industry is always producing new and innovative products with many skin-enhancing benefits, but it’s essential to know how skin works and what it responds to, in order to really get the most of your regime. That’s why Gazelli have partnered with The LSMM – we want to share with makeup artists a strong foundation of theory, that will allow them to not only create eye-catching looks, but to care for their client’s skin and create the perfect canvas.
What’s the best skincare advice you’ve ever been given?
Don’t forget to apply your products to the neck and décolleté; it’s our scaffold! The décolleté supports the neck, and the neck supports the jawline. A dermatologist explained, be sure to treat this area the same as the face. Lines start to form on the back of neck and then deepen. It’s an area often neglected yet one of the first to show signs of aging.
What do you love most about the beauty industry?
I love that it’s ever evolving, there’s so much to learn, with various practices, ancient principals and innovate technologies and skincare ingredients. What do you do to unwind? Exercise is something I love and find it’s the most effective way to help me de- stress. It gets me out of my head and re-connects me with my body. I’ve found running and swimming are great. When we’re stressed there’s a lot of adrenaline flowing through the body, which can severely impact energy, so resting is also crucial. I find regular body massages allow me to unwind, or a simple warm bubble bath is a great for re-focusing.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learnt in your career?
With a career spanning almost two decades it has offered so many lessons. The most important, in my opinion, is to take your time. Mistakes are more likely to happen when you’re not calm. Take a moment for yourself to focus and prioritise your daily goals – solutions are much more easy to find when you take a few deep breaths and remain calm.
What is the one makeup item you can’t live without?
I take good care of my skin so I could live without foundation, but mascara makes such a huge difference. It’s my last step in my makeup routine every day and I’m always surprised what a huge difference it makes. Keep up with Gazelli here and if you’re looking to try some of their skincare, we’d highly recommend the Ultra Nourishing Saviour Mask – it’s a firm favourite of ours!
